WE DONATE MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO THE GENERAL HOSPITAL OF THE SOUTH AND SAN LORENZO HOSPITAL!
We firmly believe that surgeries at the main healthcare center in the southern region should not come to a halt due to a lack of materials. That's why we sprang into action, promptly responded to the request, and delivered over L 69,600 in surgical supplies. Our goal is to reactivate operations at the General Hospital of the South to support those in greatest need. Similarly, we made a donation of surgical supplies valued at over L 88,000 to San Lorenzo Hospital in Valle. With this contribution, we are assisting them in continuing surgical interventions and ensuring the health of patients in the Valle department. Previously, due to the lack of materials, low-income patients had not undergone surgery.
WE HAVE STARTED OUR 5th BARBER WORKSHOP
We are excited to announce that we have started our fifth barber workshop in the municipality of Namasigüe. The primary goal of this workshop is to promote entrepreneurship among the young people in the area. Through this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to acquire practical skills in the field of barbering and learn how to start and manage a successful business in this sector. Our barber workshop represents a great opportunity for young people to gain valuable skills and learn fundamental business aspects. By participating in the workshop, young people can develop their creativity and practical skills. They will also gain valuable experience in the field of barbering. We hope that this workshop will allow them to explore new possibilities and provide them with the confidence and skills needed to start their own barbering business in the future. In a country where the unemployment rate is highest among young people aged 20 to 29, initiatives like these are of utmost importance. It is relevant to note that out of the 47 young people we have trained in the previous 4 workshops, 62% are starting their own businesses.
THE RECYCLING CAMPAIGN IN CHOLUTECA WAS A COMPLETE SUCCESS!
In partnership with the Ministry of Energy, Natural Resources, Environment, and Mines, the Ministry of Education, and the Municipal Government of Choluteca, we conducted an important campaign on March 10th with the aim of raising awareness among the population about the value of recycling our solid waste. This helps combat climate change and benefits our planet Earth. We invite you to adopt the culture of recycling, which involves reusing materials that were discarded and are still suitable for making other products or remanufacturing the same ones. Recycling begins by doing what is right rather than what is easy. Recycling is an opportunity to save our planet and create a better future for everyone. We managed to collect 15,427 pounds of recyclable waste:
Glass: 10,245 lbs.
Iron: 1,948 lbs.
WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment): 1,252 lbs.
PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate): 1,161 lbs.
Cardboard: 291 lbs.
Aluminum: 270 lbs.
Batteries: 252 lbs.
Copper: 8 lbs.
WE DELIVERED OTOACOUSTIC EMISSIONS EQUIPMENT: HELPING PRESERVE INFANTS' HEALTH
According to the World Health Organization, 1 to 3 out of every 1,000 children are born with hearing levels outside the normal range. Hearing is the primary pathway through which language and speech, one of the most important human attributes, develop, making it a fundamental sense in life.
Thanks to the CHILD HEALTH FOUNDATION, the Diputación of Alicante, and the Alicante Pediatrics Association, we managed to acquire 3 Otoacoustic Emissions equipment units, used to diagnose the auditory status of newborns.
As responsible for the administration, implementation, operation, and control of this project, we have delivered the respective equipment to TELETHON HONDURAS, so they can manage the gathering and organization of the tests. This new service is now available free of charge at the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center of Telethon in Choluteca. Timely detection and intervention are crucial to reducing the consequences of hearing loss at an early age.
WE CONCLUDED LLANTATÓN 2023
In collaboration with Cementos Argos and the Herco Foundation, we have successfully concluded LLANTATÓN 2023. In this event, 11 schools in Choluteca participated in the collection of used tires for proper recycling. The first-place winner, CEB Ramón de Jesús Zelaya, received a prize of 40,000 lempiras. With the help of our allies and the dedication of the students, we managed to collect 8,216 tires that, otherwise, could have ended up in landfills or contaminating our environment.
This event not only promoted environmental awareness in the community but also provided an opportunity for students to actively engage in protecting the planet. We appreciate the collaboration of Cementos Argos and the Herco Foundation in this effort and hope that this initiative inspires others to take action to protect our environment.
WE DELIVERED A WATER WELL IN LAURE ABAJO, NAMASIGÜE!
This well has an approximate value of 10,000 dollars. Knowing that this project will help many families in the community have access to clean water fills us with joy and satisfaction, but it also reminds us of the difficult situation that many communities in our region face and the importance of access to clean and safe water.
This project would not have been possible without the collaboration and support of Living Water, who worked closely with us to ensure that the well was constructed properly and met all quality standards. We hope that this well will be of great benefit to the community of Laure Abajo and improve the quality of life for many families in the area. We will continue to work hard with our allies to assist communities in need in our region.
