Improving Lives: Partnership with Costa Meeresspezialitäten Brings Sanitation Modules to Los Prados

Thanks to our ally Costa Meeresspezialitäten, we have changed lives in the communities of Los Prados 1 and 2, Namasigüe, by delivering 40 sanitation modules that will benefit 145 people, investing more than L 1,422,000.

In Honduras, it is estimated that 1.3 million people still lack these basic services, contributing to the prevalence of diseases such as diarrhea and other gastrointestinal infections, which disproportionately affect children and the elderly.

Used Tire Collection in Choluteca and Valle

Together with Fundación de Ferreteria Herco and Cementos Argos Honduras, we have collected over 105,200 used tires in Choluteca and Valle.

Achieved Benefits:

  • Reduction of Mosquito Breeding Grounds: Discarded tires accumulate water and become breeding grounds for mosquitoes that transmit diseases like dengue, Zika, and chikungunya. With their collection and proper disposal, we have significantly reduced the proliferation of these insects and the incidence of these diseases.

  • Environmental Protection: Abandoned tires can release toxic substances and take centuries to decompose. Our program ensures their proper recycling, minimizing soil and water contamination.

How We Do It:

  • After collecting the tires, we transport them to Comayagua, where they undergo co-processing in a cement kiln at temperatures of 1,500 degrees Celsius. This technology controls emissions, and no ashes are generated.

It is crucial to mention that all tuberculosis patients will now be treated at this UAPS, as the region's main hospital has transferred this service here.

Medical Training Program on the Management of Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases 2024

In collaboration with the Xunta de Galicia and FHRE The Humanitarian Foundation of Spanish Rotarians, we are executing the project "Strengthening the Honduran public health system through improved primary health care incorporating a gender perspective in 10 rural communities of the Municipality of San Lorenzo, Valle Department, Honduras."

The main objective is to strengthen the timely capture, treatment, and referral of patients in rural areas, who face difficulties in accessing specialized care available in urban areas.

The first training session, aimed at general practitioners from the Choluteca and Valle Health Regions who work in mostly rural health units, took place on Saturday, July 6. We covered essential topics such as Basic Fundamentals of Electrocardiography, Towards a Functional Cure for HIV, and Management of Dyslipidemia in Adults. This session proved to be a significant enrichment for the participating doctors.

The training will conclude with a second session on Saturday, July 27, continuing our commitment to improving healthcare in the region.
